WhattaEat V1

A swipe-based food discovery app built to make deciding where to eat feel simple, fast, and fun. Browse nearby restaurants, swipe right to save the places you like, and build a personal list of food spots to try later.

Swipe Right on Your Next Meal

WhattaEat V1 was built around a simple problem: deciding where to eat can be harder than it should be.

Instead of scrolling through endless restaurant lists, review pages, and static photos, users could swipe through nearby food spots one at a time. If a restaurant looked interesting, they could swipe right to save it. If not, they could keep moving until they found something that matched their craving.

The goal was to make choosing food feel quick, visual, and fun.

About WhattaEat V1

WhattaEat V1 was the first version of the WhattaEat concept. It turned restaurant discovery into a swipe-based mobile experience where users could browse local spots, make faster decisions, and build a personal list of places to try later.

This version focused on simplicity, speed, and playful interaction. The app was designed for those everyday moments when users ask, “What should I eat?” but do not want to spend twenty minutes searching through restaurant apps.

By using a familiar swipe interaction, WhattaEat V1 made restaurant discovery feel less like research and more like browsing.

Built as the First Version of WhattaEat

WhattaEat V1 was developed by Luis Calvillo for a client as the original version of the WhattaEat app before the product evolved into a larger food discovery startup.

The first version helped validate the core problem: people want a faster, easier, and more visual way to decide where and what to eat. The swipe-based experience became an important starting point that later influenced the direction of WhattaEat as it evolved into a short-form video and map-based food discovery platform.

As the product grew beyond the original V1 concept, Luis continued building the app as co-founder and CTO of WhattaEat, turning the early idea into a more ambitious startup focused on modern food discovery.

What This Project Shows

WhattaEat V1 is an example of how Mighty Apps builds early-stage mobile products that test real user problems quickly. The app combined mobile app design, restaurant discovery, location-based browsing, saved favorites, and a simple swipe interaction into one focused iOS experience.

For founders and startups, WhattaEat V1 shows how a simple first version can help validate a product idea before expanding into a larger platform.
